Aacer Fixed Sleeper- A Reliable, Resilient System.

The fixed sleeper system is traditionally the ideal basketball floor, where maximum performance and structural integrity are essential.

2.1 - Materials
A. Vapor barrier shall be 6-mil polyethylene.
Options:
- a. Vapor barrier will be asphalt primer with compatible asphalt mastic (grout).
- b. Asphalt mastic shall be "hot pour," dead level roofing asphalt.
B. Subfloor -
1. Underlayment shall be 1 x 6, SPF Gym Grade or 3/4" x 6", or 3/4" x 4' x 8' C-D exterior glue plywood.
C. Flooring -
1. Aacer Maple 25/32" x 2 1/4" 2nd & Better Grade Norther Hard Maple flooring tongued, grooved and end-matched as manufactured by Aaver Flooring, LLC, graded, marked and stamped in accordance with the standards established by the Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association (MFMA)
Options:
- a. Sizes - 25/32" x 1 1/2"; 33/32" x 1 1/2"; and 33/32" x 2 1/4"
- b. Grades - First Grade and Third Grade
- c. Treating - treat with WOODLIFE F® for a minimum three-minute immersion.
D. Sleepers and Sleeper Anchors
1. Sleepers shall be 2" x 4" SPF, S4S and shall be treated with WOODLIFE F.
2. Sleeper anchors shall be extra length 3/8" modified steel drivepins (minimum pullout strength 900 lbs., minimum 2 1/2" long).
E. Floor Fasteners -
1. Subfloor fasteners shall be 6d nails or 1 3/4" staples.
2. Flooring fasteners shall be 2" barbed cleats or epoxy coated staples.
F. Wall base shall be 3" x 4" molded vent cove base.
G. Shims shall be 1/8" and 1/4" thick tempered masonite or equal material.
3.1 - Pre-Installation Inspection
A. Floor installer shall verify slab tolerance of concrete and report any corrections to General Contractor and Architects in writing. Room shall be broom cleaned and free of any foreign material.
B. Floor installer shall document site and working conditions prior to and during installation. This documentation shall become a part of any warranty and may or may not affect fulfillment of any warranty.
3.2 - Installation
A. Cover entire slab with 6-mil polyethylene, sealing and lapping joints a minimum of 6"
Option:
- Prime concrete slab with asphalt primer with a minimum coverage of 250 sq. ft. per gallon.
B. Install sleepers across a short dimension of room (or at right angles to the main playing court) 16" O.C. with ends butted and joints staggered a minimum of 24". Provide 2" expandsion voids at the perimeter and all verticle obstructions. Accurately, level and shim sleepers to be flush with top surface of sleeper
Option:
- After the sleepers are properly shimmed, leveled and anchored pour a layer of asphalt mastic to cover all shims and 1/8" up the side of the sleeper.
C. Diagonally to sleepers, install 1 x 6 subflooring. Break all joints over sleeper with ends butted and sides spaced 1". Securely nail or staple to sleepers.
Options:
- a: Install 3/4" plywood with 8' edge of plywood at right angles to sleepers. Break 4' edge of plywood over sleeper. Space all sides of plywood 1/4" and securely nail or staple to sleepers.
- b: Install plywood at 45° angle to sleeper.
D. Power nail or staple finished flooring parallel with main playing court with end joints driven up properly.
1. Expansion joints may be required between flooring strips intermittently throughout the floor. Requirements will be determined by site and geographical conditions.
2. Provide a 2" expansion void at all walls and permanent obstructions.
3.3 - Floor Sanding
A. Machine sand entire floor with coarse, medium, and fine paper to a smooth and uniform surface, free from edger marks and drum drops.
B. Remove all sanding dust and lint from entire surface by vacuum and/or tack.
3.4 - Finishing and Gamelines
A. Inspect entire floor to be sure surface is able to accept seal/finish. Floor should be free from dust and debris.
B. Apply two coats of Aacer seal and two coats of Aacer finish per manufacturer's label instructions.
C. Floor shall be buffed, cleaned and tacked between coats.
D. Gamelines - apply game lines and logos as indicated by drawings. Paint shall be compatible with Aacer finish.
3.5 - Base Installation
A. Install vent cove base to walls with cove base adhesive and/or mechanical attachment. Use pre-molded outside corners and mitered inside corners.
3.6 - Documentation
A. Provide job condition documentation to owner with any warranties.
